{"id":5477,"date":"2014-03-09T16:22:54","date_gmt":"2014-03-09T20:22:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/recipes.darcyparks.ca\/?p=5477"},"modified":"2014-03-09T16:22:54","modified_gmt":"2014-03-09T20:22:54","slug":"house-dal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/recipes.darcyparks.ca\/?p=5477","title":{"rendered":"House Dal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Serves: <\/strong>4<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Source: <\/strong>Buff\u00e9, 2014 issue 2<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 dl mung beans<\/li>\n<li>3 dl red lentils<\/li>\n<li>4 cloves garlic<\/li>\n<li>1 red onion<\/li>\n<li>150 g butter<\/li>\n<li>3 tbsp finely-chopped fresh ginger<\/li>\n<li>1 \u00bd\u00a0tbsp ground cumin<\/li>\n<li>1 tbsp fennel seeds<\/li>\n<li>\u00bd tsp chili pepper or cayenne<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp turmeric<\/li>\n<li>salt<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Instructions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Soak \u00a0the mung beans for 8 hours. Pour off the water and rinse.<\/li>\n<li>Rinse the red lentils, then bring to a boil in 1 litre water. Let them cook for 20 minutes. (The original recipe calls for 1.5 litres, so add more at the end if the dal is too thick.)<\/li>\n<li>Add the mung beans to the pot and let cook for another 15 minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Peel and chop the onion and garlic.<\/li>\n<li>Melt the butter in a frying pan. Add the garlic, onion, ginger, cumin, fennel seeds, chili pepper and turmeric to the butter and fry, stirring.<\/li>\n<li>Add the butter mixture to the lentils and cook for another 10 minutes.
